A How-To To Job Interviews

by admin on Nov.08, 2009, under Jobs and Careers

The second step in getting a job is having an interview with a potential employer.

The first step was sending your application and after careful review by the company, you are seen as candidate for the vacant position. The employer will have received your information after you made your application online or via a recruitment agency.

Your CV is your first introduction to your potential new employer.Given the many that apply, this usually takes about 30 seconds and so with the limited words, one must be sure that the resume is well written and grammatically correct.

During the interview, most employers want to know more about person since the resume only gives certain information such as the person’s name, age, address, contact number, social security number, past and current employment.Interviewers commonly ask to describe your previous role and what you have achieved with your last employer. An interviewer may be interested in learning about how you dealt with certain work situations and how you learned to overcome any problems.

An interviwer may ask about your family, to understand any external commitments you may have outside of working hours.

The employer will usually ask why the person applied to the company and where you would like to be in 5 to 10 years. Be specific about the company itself, if your interview is for John lewis job vacancies, tell them something you like about John Lewis.

Companies like to understand how driven applicants are, and if they are serious about working for their organisation.

Most interviewers ask for your salary expectations so they can see if you fit in with their budget. If what is being asked is too high, the employer will usually ask if the salary is open to negotiation.
You may be invited to ask questions, so have some prepared in advance.

Asking questions gives you the opportunity to learn more about the job and the company.

Don’t be surprised to learn that there is a second interview. Many companies like to see applicants more than once before making their decision.
